Soprano Sax

Oil on Canvas 19" x 29.5"

Daily Deviation

Given 2008-08-06

The soprano by ~FrankLArtist is one of the most beautifully realistic paintings of music (well, musician and instrument...) that I have had the pleasure of coming across on dA. So warm, so real, and yet obviously painted with a restrained hand, because there's just enough detail for you to appreciate the artistry of the music, and not too much that it draws attention away from the real focus of the picture, which is all about playing music. Only ONE fave for this??? :omfg: Dude, this is tragically underappreciated!

Beautifully realistic without being overly detailed, and maintaining its artistic flow. :D I like it that all that can be made out of the musician are his hands, so that the focus is centred around his playing the instrument.

Thanks man..thats a cool comment and very much appreciated!
I like to paint hands...its challenging (How d'ya spell that? duh!)but can be as personal as a portrait...sometimes...I love to see musicians with hands that could dig trenches...and what comes out from them...they are like a gateway to the soul....or something artistic like and poetic anyway...I hope you see where I'm coming from..I'm more comfortable with a brush than words..

Well, I'm not that great at eloquent comments but I do love this. I've tried doing an instrument with my acrylics and, well, it was less than stellar so I'm interested in future works from you. :D

Thanks for your coment, Its great of you to spend the time! I really like to hear from you guys...after all isnt that why we're here?...so its much appreciated.....acrylics you say? I cant stand em and admire anyone who has the patience for them..Look up Hamish Blakely..I dont think he'll be on DA, but you can probably google him....He uses acrylics..I was frankly shocked and stunned to silence when I found out....! I think theres a skill there....it just evades me!
I'll load up some more pics soon...thanks in the meantime!

A beautiful piece of work. I've always loved the "complexity" of instruments versus the "simplicity" of the human hand. Somehow, the human aspect of this painting is more dominate than the instrument, even as the painting showcases the instrument. Very cool.

I don't know much about paintings, but this is lovely. Thanks for posting.

Absolutely stunning work. I play saxophone...I even have a soprano (though I preferred the bari)... This is an incredible rendering of the instrument. The hands are amazing. Love this :)

Awesome, awesome. I find drawing the saxophone very hard to do with all the keys and stuff. Haven't played my tenor in a long time but this is just plain wonderful. I applaud you on this piece and your DD :]
